Your Guide to Seasonal Living: How to Embrace Autumn

As a holistic skincare company, we care about much more than just skincare. We believe the key to radiant + healthy skin lies in the choices – big or small – made daily. Each new day, your experiences, environment, and outlook on life shift your reality.

So, as we gradually migrate towards a cooler, more mellow season, we invite you to ponder with us: How can you embrace seasonal living this autumn?

Seasonal living is all about embracing the present moment.

As the spontaneity of summer subsides, we find ourselves returning to what we know: routine and rhythm. (Often with a sigh of relief, right?) What better way to honor this shift than prioritizing a slower-paced mindset and practices that deeply ground you? The structured days ahead allow us more dedicated space for the things that mean most to us.

Tuning into these rhythms allows space for profound rewards we might otherwise miss.

Being attuned to the cyclical changes of autumn allows you to revel in the radiant colors of foliage + cozy traditions. So you can unapologetically make space for a season that welcomes rest and inward reflection.

Let’s explore how to infuse more of this new season’s sacred space and intention.

Join us in living like autumn.

Nourishing Foods: Seasonal Foods for Fall

As we embrace grounding routines and settle into the richness of this new season, we also return to the importance of seasonal eating. We’re called to align ourselves with the earth’s rhythms.

Seasonal eating is a special way to reconnect with the earth we call home.

Prioritizing seasonal foods for fall embraces foundational pillars of ancestral wisdom, getting back to the basics and trusting what we need is already provided (and abundantly). Foods grown in season are beneficial because they’re:

  • More nutrient-dense from being grown in the right conditions
  • Often more affordable because they require less resources + transportation
  • They’re environmentally friendly, respecting nature’s wisdom

We love shopping locally, too. It’s an easy way to eat in-season + super fresh without much effort. Check out your local farmer’s market or a local farm CSA. (And if you’re local to Southern California, visit our family farm, Primal Pastures for in-season produce!)

Circadian fasting is another way we can show reverence for fall rhythms. We find ourselves returning home at an earlier hour, neglecting social callings, and following the patterns of the sun. Wrapping up dinner a few hours earlier can create more space for elevated, rejuvenating routines and cozy rituals to round out your days.

(Plus, when we rise and set with the sun, we can make the most of our daylight hours. Going to bed earlier typically leads to waking up earlier.)

Many seasonal foods for fall are full of potent anti-inflammatory properties and nutrients to protect + build a resilient immune system. This is all by design to support our bodies as we move into colder weather. We see many root vegetables and warming foods at the center of our autumn supper plates.

  • Apples
  • Beets
  • Blackberries
  • Figs
  • Eggplants
  • Sweet Potatoes
  • Winter squash
  • Brussel sprouts
  • Leeks
  • Pumpkin
  • Shallots
  • Cabbage
  • Broccoli
  • Cauliflower
  • Cranberries
  • Mushrooms
  • Parsnips
  • Potatoes
  • Turnips
  • Grapes
  • Pears
  • Sweet corn
  • Animal-based proteins

*Tip: Prep nourishing foods ahead of time to create more space for rituals. Try bone broths, nutrient-dense soups, stews, and savory one-pot meals.

Autumn invites us to lean less into the summer snacks and lightness and more into a savory whole-food diet. Trusting nature knows best provides us with the exact nutrients we need. As the tides change with our foods, so do our skin’s nutrient needs.

Autumn Skincare Tips: Recovery + Routine

We love that autumn provides an opportunity to recommit to our skincare routines. Seasonal skincare – especially in autumn – is a simple way to feel grounded and glowing as the seasons change.

As we transition out of the long, sun-drenched days of summer, our skin reveals shifting needs. Paying attention to the rhythms of cyclical living, our skin often craves a redirection to two simple concepts: routine and recovery.

Routine

It can be easy to forego routines in summer – including skincare. No shame! This is why we love to focus on rebuilding routines in autumn. Returning to routines can feel like a chore. Not your autumn skincare. ;) Here’s why: Less can really be more with fall skincare.

Encourage yourself to prioritize a morning and evening routine. Even if it’s simple, make it intentional. Start your day with skincare that replenishes + protects, and end your day with skincare that repairs + relaxes.

We love this approach because a slower pace and fewer products can actually help us reset and make time and space for routine again. As the old saying goes, one thing at a time. When you simplify your skincare routine, you also leave space for more intention and indulgence – maximizing the benefits for your skin and sense of overall wellness.

Recovery

With the busyness of summer schedules, we’re more prone to neglecting or pushing the limits of our skin. Whether you spent a little too much time in the sun or high temperatures have done a number on your skin, autumn is the perfect time to focus on recovery and rejuvenation.

Here are our favorite products to build your autumn skincare routine:

Oil cleansing at night provides a gentle detox without disrupting the moisture barrier (which is essential going into fall). Purifying and nourishing oils with synergistic properties help to balance, restore, and repair your skin. We all need a gentle detox from days of SPF, sun exposure, and elemental stressors

*Tip: Add double cleansing a few times a week to deeply purify + target specific skin concerns.

Our Regenerative Hemp line provides the perfect daily dose of supportive, calming, and ultra-restorative nutrients your skin needs. Add in our Regenerative Hemp Serum in the AM/PM, plus a weekly Regenerative Hemp Mask to uniquely support your skin. These products are brimming with potent antioxidants, cannabinoids, chlorophyll, fatty acids, essential amino acids, proteins + terpenes that help:

  • Deeply hydrate
  • Soothe tired skin
  • Calm inflammation and redness/irritation
  • Visibly brighten + even skin tone
  • Protect from free radical damage
  • Balance oil production
  • Repair skin + rebuild resiliency

Antioxidant balm is one of our best autumn skin care tips. This balm is like a daily supplement for your skin with vitamins A, C, and E. We love using this decadent and nourishing balm AM/PM to:

  • Restore elasticity and vibrancy
  • Address pigmentation or discoloration from the sun
  • Support skin-reparative functions
  • Brighten tone
  • Boost collagen
  • Intensely improve moisture

Rhythmic massage helps calm the internal world and sends signs of safety to your nervous system, helping you regulate stress. Stress can often creep up on us in seasons of new routines and commitments. So it’s important to take time to restore connection with yourself. Summer is elevated and airy, so it’s helpful to bring it back down and grounded for the autumn season.

As the sun starts to set sooner, grab your facial cupping set to unwind and embrace the slower pace the season offers – all while boosting beauty and immunity. You can customize your cupping ritual based on what you’re craving. But we’d encourage you to indulge in a more thorough facial cupping session than usual. You might be surprised how you feel (and look!) afterward. ;)

Though we appreciate the joys of the past summer, we acknowledge that our skin is ready for a gentle reprieve. So as you migrate towards more nourishing and reparative skin care rhythms in autumn, you intuitively give voice to what your skin needs most.

Autumn Ambiance: Carving Out Sacred Space

As we drift into cozy days with a mug of warm tea (day and night!), it’s important to remember a wise mantra. How we live our days is, of course, how we live our lives. Let’s indulge in the sacred spaces, the little moments, and the slower rhythms of autumn.

As we move inward, metaphorically and physically, it’s essential to observe our environments + how we spend our time. Here are our biggest tips for creating intentional rhythms in mind and body.

Cultivate a Toxin-Free Home

Home toxins can slip under the radar if we aren’t intentional. Seasonal living in fall naturally entails more time inside. With that in mind, we want our homes to be a place that supports healing, not deplete it. While it can feel tempting to go for the fragrant pumpkin spice candles, there are much safer options to enjoy aromatherapy.

  • Swap toxic fragranced household items for our non-toxic Warm Citrus Spice Home Collection. (The perfect non-toxic aroma that rivals pumpkin spice – sans chemicals.)
  • Slip off your shoes to keep toxins off the floors when entering your home.
  • Add plants to your home to purify the air + enhance feelings of connectedness to nature.
  • Open the windows/doors to improve air quality – even 15 minutes can make a huge difference.

Find Ways to Enhance Your Rituals

Autumn is a great excuse to build calming and indulgent routines you look forward to each day. Here are some of our favorite easy-to-implement ideas.

  • Add a diffuser to your morning meditation/quiet time. Our mental state and ability to regulate our nervous system affect almost every system in our bodies, including skin health.
  • Keep a Warm Citrus Room Spray on hand for a mid-day office reset. (If you work in-office, fair warning: you might become everyone’s best friend with the indulgent soothing aroma of autumn. ;))
  • Make food prep part of your daily rhythms. Fit it in wherever it makes sense for your life and your flow. Turn on your favorite relaxing tunes or feel-good pod. Let the rhythmic chopping or stirring provide a gentle reminder to turn inward and meditate on the day's journey. Swap conventional hand soaps for our nourishing and non-toxic hand soaps + a dose of aromatherapy.
  • Build inviting and cozy spaces. Within your living spaces, build a space that invites you in. Pull out alllll the soft, cozy blankets + extra pillows – any textiles that feel indulgent and special. Set out the books you’ve been meaning to read. Use aromatherapy to ground further into the sensations of the season.
  • Set yourself up for healthy sleep. Just getting deep and restorative sleep can be indulgent! Limit blue light a few hours before bed to help your body prepare for sleep. Unplug your wifi and turn off your phone at night to reduce exposure to EMFs’ negative effects. Try to rise and set with the sun. Living in tandem with the sun’s patterns automatically carves out more time in your day.

Do More of What You Love + What Makes You Feel Grounded

Carve out sacred space to enjoy your favorite indulgences and reconnect with yourself in body and spirit.

  • Prioritize movement. Set intentions for staying active but balance it with slowness. Try to schedule times for rest in the same way you schedule times for exercise. Be mindful of how you can support your body in its cycle
  • Take time for your mental health. Transitioning from the bright days of summer into more somber nights and time spent inside can make fall a vulnerable time for many of us. Autumn can be a time we find ourselves sitting with our feelings whether we want to or not, but it’s better to do it intentionally
    • Invite a friend over for dinner and candid conversation
    • Talk with a therapist
    • Or find something you enjoy learning about and dive in

Remind Yourself to Dream

Challenge yourself to spend more time honoring your feelings, hopes, and dreams for this season of life – and beyond. When we learn to tune out the ways of the world, we can reconnect with our true passions and visions for the life we want to build.

Infusing intentional touches like these into the daily humm of routines can open space for new and restorative healing. Previously mundane aspects of life can become cozy rituals you look forward to.

Settling Into Seasonal Living in Autumn

Seasonal living requires our attunement + refinement. It makes us more aligned, present, and compassionate. What a gift!

Autumn is a unique opportunity each year to lean into schedules/predictability but also to create space to settle. There’s so much to learn from grounding into rhythms and more intentional slowness. So lounge in the cozy vibes, and give yourself permission to relax + recover – in body, mind, and skin.

Tune inward to find deeper seated awareness and care for your needs in this season of life.

Let’s end with a few questions as prompts you can use to reflect or journal.

→ What parts of myself have I neglected in the rushed pace of summer fun that I want to bring back to the surface?
→ Am I letting a new season of routines ground me or pull me further away from myself?
→ Am I savoring the slowness or rushing to the next thing?
→ What am I connecting to? Who am I connecting with? Where is my energy being focused?

With more intention, we can live from a place of design rather than default.

To more sacred rituals and carved-out spaces in our hearts and in our lives,

XO
