The Power of Thank You Prayers: A Personal Post From Our Holistic Esthetician
A year ago, I broke my heel… and it led me to my (soon to be) husband.
It wasn’t just any ordinary injury – it was the kind that keeps you immobile for months. For over three months, I couldn’t walk. During that time, I moved in with my family, and the world as I knew it came to a halt. Little did I know, that season of stillness, pain, and frustration would become the catalyst for a story I never saw coming – one I now look back on with awe and gratitude.
In the midst of that long, slow winter, a beautiful silver lining began to emerge. One of my sister’s neighbors, who became a dear friend and a kindred spirit during this time, had a divine nudge. While praying one day, she felt led to connect me with her mentor’s son – whom she didn’t even know. A few months later, he proposed at a lighthouse overlooking the Pacific Ocean.
That calcaneus fracture – an injury that felt like such a setback – led me to the love of my life.
It’s easy to look back now and see the wonder of how things unfolded. But in the midst of it, in the waiting, I was lost in the unknown. I couldn’t see the bigger picture. I couldn’t understand why something so painful and disruptive was happening.
If only we could see the beauty on the other side of our wonderings. If only we could know what will unfold in the future, in the spaces between our prayers and dreams. If only we could believe that the best is yet to come, even in the hardest, longest seasons of waiting.
But what if, instead of striving or struggling or straining to make our dreams manifest, we simply trusted – and gave thanks.
Trusting that what we’re hoping for is already on its way.
Giving thanks for the unknown. For what is unseen. For the beauty and blessings we believe are already in motion behind the scenes.
This past year, I’ve adopted a new way to pray – one that has carried me through long seasons of uncertainty. The prayer is simple, yet profound: Thank you prayers.
Thank you for the perfect timing, for the intentional preparation. Thank you for the grace to get through hard, heavy, and hectic seasons. Thank you for weaving my love story before it was ever a reality. Thank you for the open doors that are yet to be seen, for the opportunities being prepared for me.
When I pray this way, it shifts my entire perspective. It moves me from fear to peace. From worry to trust. From striving to receiving. It diffuses doubt and replaces it with hope. It allows me to lean into the present moment, knowing that even when things don’t seem clear, there’s a bigger picture unfolding – one that I can’t yet see, but that I trust is beautiful.
These thank you prayers are not just about asking for what we want or need, they are about acknowledging the abundance we already have. They are a practice of gratitude that nods to both the journey and the destination.
They help us live in expectancy. Not with anxiety over what is coming, but with a quiet conviction that what we hope for is already being prepared for us. And reminding us of all the blessings we’ve already received, even in seasons that felt barren.
Thank you for what has been. Thank you for what is. And thank you for what is yet to come.
This Thanksgiving, may the spirit of gratitude permeate not only our tables but also our hearts and our prayers. May we exhale “thank you” with every breath, every broken bone, every obstacle, every detour, every new day.
Because our stories – just like mine – are unfolding in miraculous ways we can’t yet imagine. What seems like a setback today might just be the very thing that leads us to our brightest, most beautiful blessings tomorrow.
In the quiet of our prayers, in the pauses between our wonderings, may we say “thank you” and trust that the best is still yet to come.
XO, Courtney
