My Medicine

Today’s Reflection

In a world that often overcomplicates wellness, this is my reminder (and maybe yours too) that the most powerful healing is often the most simple: sunshine on my face, my bare feet in the sand, the breath that finds me when I pause long enough to notice it.

These are the rituals that recalibrate me. They are not elaborate, they don’t come in glass bottles (though I do love my Primally Pure skincare). They’re the kinds of things our ancestors lived by – grounding, sunlight, breath, relationship.

And I’ve come to discover that this is my medicine. It offers a deeper kind of healing that no supplement, serum, or spa treatment can offer.

As I reflect on earth month, I’m remembering that God’s creation was designed to be innately healing.

The ocean, breathing in its salt and negative ions, balances my mood and soothes my sympathetic nervous system. The soil, rich with microbes, supports not only my immune system, but boosts serotonin levels just by digging my hands into it. The sun, in all its golden generosity, regulates my hormones, resets my circadian rhythm and energizes my cells. The sand exfoliates more than just my skin – it reminds me to remain soft, to slow down and to remember my smallness in the best way.

Even my breath is part of this design – the inhale and exhale like waves, like wind. When I pause long enough to breathe deeply, I’m doing more than just relaxing – I’m communicating to my body, you are safe now. I’m coming back to my natural state: calm, connected, alive.

And then there’s connection – to ourselves, to each other, to something greater. When I sit in stillness, laugh with a friend, or cry to God in prayer, I am healing. I remember that we’re not meant to do this life alone and that being seen, held and loved is also medicine.

When we look at all of this – the science and the somatics – it becomes clear: We were never designed to be healed by screens or speed or constant striving. We were designed to be healed by sunlight, soil, sea salt, slowness and soul connection.

By returning to these ancient truths, we reclaim a form of wellness that is beautifully simple, deeply powerful, and radically accessible.

This is my medicine. And it can be yours too.

Today’s Ritual

Today I invite you to try these breath prayers and journal prompts to open your body, breath and being to the innate healing design of God’s creation. Step outside, stand barefoot on the earth or sit by an open window as you return to the rhythm and medicine of nature.

Inhale: I return to connection.
Exhale: I release constant striving.

Inhale: My body was designed to heal.
Exhale: The earth was designed as medicine.

What feels like medicine to me today?
Where in my body am I holding tension or tenderness?
How can I live in deeper harmony with the earth this week?

May today's reflection help you recalibrate and remember that healing is your birthright and it can be found beneath your bare feet.
